Law Director Robert Broeren

P. Robert Broeren, Jr.

Rob Broeren was sworn in as Mount Vernon’s Law Director on August 10, 2014, after previously serving as Assistant Law Director since 2009. The voters of Mount Vernon returned him to Office in 2015, 2019 and 2023.

Prior to joining the Law Director’s Office, Rob was an Assistant Knox County Prosecutor, practiced law on his own in Knox County, and was an associate with the law firm of Covington & Burling in Washington, DC.

The Law Director’s Office prosecutes every misdemeanor in Knox County and provides civil legal advice and representation to the City of Mount Vernon. Rob believes that the mission of the Law Director’s Office is to keep the residents of our community safe.   To further this goal, he applied for and was awarded grant funding for the first Victim Advocate in the history of the Mount Vernon Municipal Court and created the Domestic Violence Special Prosecution Unit to focus on effectively prosecuting domestic violence in Knox County.  Recently, Rob secured funding from City Council to add a second assistant law director, who will focus on prosecuting serious vehicular crimes including operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or a drug of abuse.

Rob is a member of the Ohio Municipal Attorneys Association.

Rob earned his Juris Doctor from Notre Dame Law School, where he held the Judge Roger Kiley Fellowship.   Prior to law school, he graduated from Kenyon College cum laude with High Honors and Distinction in History.
