The City of Mount Vernon has grown from a mere 6.44 square miles in 1990 to 10 square miles as of December 2014 (per Mount Vernon Engineering Department). That is an estimated 230 lane miles for our officers to cover each and every day. Naturally with growth there is an impact on the available resources. The Mount Vernon Police Department along with the City Administration recognizes that additional staff, as well as new or modified policies or strategies are required in order to continue the high level of protection and law enforcement to our community. These considerations are always necessary and are evaluated continually.
