The Property Maintenance Enforcement department is responsible for enforcing the City’s Property Maintenance Code (Chapter 1300, Codified Ordinances of the City of Mount Vernon) and the City’s Vacant Commercial, Industrial and Institutional Building Program (Chapter 1323, Codified Ordinances of the City of Mount Vernon).
The focus is to make property owners responsible for the exterior maintenance of their properties through inspections and the issuance of notices of violations. Failure by property owners to remedy violations in a timely manner may result in fines and/or remediation by City contracted crews.
The solution to maintaining good neighborhoods is the individual property owner’s responsibility. Please review the Exterior Property Maintenance Checklist and take steps to be a responsible property owner. Landlords should review and hand out to all tenants the Exterior Property Maintenance Checklist for Tenants. If you have additional questions regarding property maintenance compliance, please contact the Code Enforcement Officer.
